In making amigurumi (the name of crocheted animals and dolls), I fell in love with the patterns by Jess Huff. I would highly recommend checking them all out on her website. They’re all free patterns with beautiful PDFs to download for ease of use. Honestly, what sold me completely was the ears on her elephant. They’re beyond adorable and it was the perfect pattern for the second amigurumi I ever made.
But after making a number of them, I couldn’t help but wish there was a way to make a smaller elephant with the same adorable curved trunk and folded ears. So I halved the pattern. By that I mean, that I have taken each of the components of the pattern and adjusted the stitch and row count to give a pattern that makes the sweetest baby elephant.

I’ve decided to share that adorableness in pattern form with all of you. Now, this is not going to be the complete pattern (since it’s not my own and I don’t want to claim credit for the hard work that went into making it) but instead it is the stitch counts for each part. You can find the original pattern on Jess Huff’s website – here; and I would highly recommend downloading that pattern for all the extra information about how to put it together and so many great tips and tricks for making the sweetest of heffalumps. You can even make a mommy and baby elephant with the original pattern and this one!
