2021 has officially begun (but not with a bang). No beaches, no waterways, no alcohol, no fireworks, only a lit candle at midnight to herald the start of a new year after a undoubtedly historic one. Although 2020 will go down as the year of COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2, coronavirus, “the rona”, *cough* “I promise its not covid”), for me there were many other major events. I started to work earnestly on Speckled Tortoise, I built this website, wrote two posts for the Speckled Tortoise blog, made many crochet items and managed to finish my last year of medicine – all achievements of which I am incredibly proud.

Yet, the new year has already had some emotional roller-coasting. I’ve started a new job, started getting used to answering to ‘Doctor’ and moved into a new house with unknown people in an unknown city in a time where everything seems to have a little bit of ‘unknown’ in it. Oh, I also second guess every decision that has led me here. This brings me to asking myself “what do I want to make of the new year?”
I’m not quite sure of what the answer to that is going to be, but one thing that I would like to try more of is writing. Making captions for instagram posts always brings a grin to my face and I tend to not post if I don’t know what to say – even if I have a marvelous photo that I want to share. So, I’ve decided to try my hand at blogging.

Will this be the first and only post for the year? Maybe. Will I post each day, each week, or each month? I have no cooking clue. But if not, why not? So here it goes!
I posted some questions in my insta stories recently asking what people wanted to see (when I see people, it’s mostly my family and some friends who reply). The people replied that they’d like to see some crocheting, some other crafts, some of my medical life and some of Tabitha. Tabitha being the most important for some and a ‘will tolerate if I have to’ for one (yes, I know she stepped on your face while you were sleeping but it’s really a bit silly to hold a grudge against this ball of lovable meows).

Crocheting has always been a way for me to de-stress from life and so I will still continue to take orders on request (but may close abruptly depending on quantity and time). Let me know if there’s any crocheted item that you have a deep longing for. I also got a glue gun for Christmas which means I can finally make all those crafts from the “diy with things you have at home” blog posts I see. These always seem to involve taking household items and gluing them together for no apparently useful purpose. I’m actually really excited to glue random things together and try out some new crafts. Be prepared for many a beginner’s attempt at whatever catches my interest for 30 seconds (and a beginner’s attempts at fun metaphors and similes in posts after being inspired by Terry Pratchett).
So let’s all say a big WELCOME to 2021 (and watch it like a two year old who was moping and complaining a minute ago but now is suspiciously quiet).

Ps. If you’d like to get any future blog posts as emails – sign up to my newsletter (and I’ll finally get around to making one)
I love this! You are good at writing (remember that huge grade 11 English assignment that you aced?) I’d love to read more blogs with your thoughts and perspectives.
Love you! Mum
Gorgeous cat. What is the butterfly name? Great photo. Deserves a block mount.
